This photo was taken down by the leeve in Winona. This pillar that is on the left hand side of the photo creates a weight in the photo that makes you almost feel like you are tipping on that side. The aspect of design here is Visual Weight.

Perspective and Depth September 28, 2008
This was taken out on Prairie Island in Winona. I got down into the high prairie grass to get the perspective of the view down in there. Then there is all this depth with seeing farther into the landscape. This is a Perspective and Depth photo.
Pattern, Texture, Many September 28, 2008
This is a random photo taken of a tree that had these unique leaves and i saw design on it. This is a design example of Pattern, Texture, and Many. This has all three elements here. Pattern, in the design of the leaves and colors and lines on the leaves. Texture because you can almost feel the leaves in this photo. Then Many because there is more than one leaf here.
Rhythm September 28, 2008
This was taken while walking through the woods near Prairie Island Park in Winona. This is a tree stomp that i stood over to get the rings and the close surroundings. This is an example of Rhythm in photography. There is a Rhythm running through the rings on the stomp, your eyes are taken to the center of the photo and then the rings bring our eyes out to see the rest of the photo.
Figure and Ground September 28, 2008
This was taken on a side of a building in downtown Winona. This design concept is Figure and Ground. We have the leaves coming onto the building, but then there is all this design going on with the red bricks. The shape of the leaves catches out eye, drawing us across the photo. Windows also make a good choice for this, so there was a window, and i chose to include it in instead of cropping it out. It adds more to the photo.
Dynamic Tension September 28, 2008
This was taken on top of Garvin Heights in Winona. There were so many people up there and i just sat back and started people watching. Then this dog kept starring at me. This photo came after many different shots taken. I saw in this photo the design element Dynamic Tension. There is all this tension on what the dog is looking at and wondering what the owner must be doing. The owner’s legs are going up and down and the dog’s stare makes a curve shape to the right.
Balance September 28, 2008
This is the Watkins Tomb in Woodlawn Cemetery, taken during sunset. The Aspect of design here is Balance. There is an equal balance of items on each side of the main building.
Gestalt Perception September 28, 2008
This is the side of a building in Woodlawn Cemetery. This is Gestalt Perception for the reasons what Gestalt is. Gestalt has the principles of emergence, multistability, and invariance. Meaning that we can recognize objects in this frame no matter which way we turn this photo. Also another principle says that we should seek completeness in a photo, this photo makes you wonder more.
Contrast September 28, 2008
This is taken during sunset on a beautiful fall day. This is the top of the tree looking up towards the sky. This tree was found in Woodlawn Cemetery. The aspect of design used here is contrast. There is a major color contrast between the blue sky and the reds and oranges on the tree.

This was taken on a back road in Winona. A train was going by, so i stopped and took some shots. Showing the Dynamics of the Frame. I see this as some part of Diagonal Tension.

I spent the night at a crowed bar and took this picture. I made sure i could fit as much into the frame as i could without it looking too tacky.
Placement

I saw this table just sitting there. It looked lonely. The placement of an object within in the frame is very important. Has to have purpose and intent.
Dividing the Frame

I divided the frame with the trees and the person in the photo helps give more character to the photo.

Frames within Frames
“Looking for Light”
A burst of light came in through the doorway to my room. So i put my mom there and the door frame gave way to a frame within a frame. This photo being in black and white gives more personality to the photo. makes you think there is more to the story here.
